Andreas Rettig, DFB’s managing director, is confident that Florian Wirtz will succeed at Liverpool despite a challenging start.

Florian Wirtz’s start to his Liverpool career hasn’t been smooth sailing. Despite his impressive talent, the 22-year-old German attacking midfielder has faced criticism for his performances in England after joining from Bayer Leverkusen in a record-breaking £116 million deal.

However, within Germany, there’s no doubt that Wirtz will make his mark at Anfield once he settles in. Andreas Rettig, the German Football Association’s sporting managing director, is convinced that Wirtz will succeed.

“One thing is clear: Florian will establish himself at Liverpool; there’s no debate,” Rettig told reporters.

Rettig’s confidence in Wirtz stems from the player’s exceptional quality. “No one can seriously claim that a player of his quality won’t succeed,” he said, dismissing any doubts about Wirtz’s ability to adapt to the Premier League.

Wirtz’s decision to join Liverpool instead of Bayern Munich has drawn some criticism, with Bayern’s Karl-Heinz Rummenigge expressing regret over the player’s choice. However, Rettig defended Wirtz, saying it’s natural for clubs to feel some regret when they miss out on top talent.

Rettig’s comments are a vote of confidence for Wirtz as he navigates his new surroundings at Liverpool. With time and patience, Wirtz is expected to showcase his skills and prove himself as one of the top players in the Premier League.
