Club sporting director signals summer reinforcements as La Blaugrana eye depth in attack

Barcelona sporting director Deco has voiced the club’s need to reinforce the squad in the summer transfer window. In an interview with ESPN, Deco said that the Catalan giants have become “very dependent on Raphinha and Lamine [Yamal]”.

The duo have dazzled in La Liga and Europe this season, but Deco hinted that the heavy reliance on just two wingers could prompt significant moves in the upcoming summer transfer window.

“Suddenly, we feel very dependent on Raphinha and Lamine. Maybe we need similar players, a solution for them,” said Deco. “The squad is quite balanced, and we have a lot of good players in the youth team too.”

Raphinha, the 28-year-old Brazilian international, has become one of Barcelona’s most consistent performers, featuring in every match of the club’s Champions League campaign and contributing crucial goals and assists in La Liga. Meanwhile, 17-year-old sensation Lamine Yamal has made 52 appearances for the club this season, contributing 16 goals and 24 assists.

Between them, the two have clocked up 106 appearances so far this season, which is a concerning amount of workload for Deco.

“I don’t believe that this team, given its dynamism and joy, will have anyone wanting to leave,” said the former club midfielder. “We’ve already renewed most of the players, now we need to take care of the ones that are still there.”
