The Dutch defender will be missing from the squad after going off injured against Brentford

Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has confirmed that defender Matthijs de Ligt will miss Thursday’s Europa League semi-final second leg against Athletic Club due to injury.

The Netherlands international, who sustained the injury during United’s Premier League loss to Brentford, is also set to be sidelined for Sunday’s league fixture against West Ham United.

“It is not a big issue, that is the good thing,” said Amorim at his press conference on Wednesday. “He cannot play tomorrow, cannot play on Sunday.

“But then we will check day by day. We’ll see.”

United beat Athletic Club 3-0 in the first leg in Bilbao, after a goal from Casemiro and a brace from Bruno Fernandes. The Red Devils will now welcome the Spanish side to Old Trafford aiming to capitalise on their first-leg advantage and advance to the final.

In addition to De Ligt, Amorim provided updates on other squad members, noting that Ayden Heaven and Toby Collyer remain unavailable. “The rest, I think Ayden [Heaven] doesn’t recover. Toby [Collyer] is not available. I think that’s it,” he added.
