Midfielder has one year left on his current contract but is yet to sign a new deal
Frenkie de Jong is “very happy” at Barcelona and is confident he will soon agree a new contract with the club.
De Jong has one year left on his current contract but is yet to sign a new deal, even though the club have offered renewals to Raphinha, Wojciech Szczesny and Lamine Yamal this summer.
Barcelona’s latest star to sign an extension was defender Jules Kounde, who has extended his contract to 2030.
De Jong said: “I have not renewed my contract, otherwise you [reporters] would have known.
“But I am very happy at Barcelona and from what I know, Barcelona are happy with me so, in the end, I will renew.”
De Jong started in Barcelona’s 7-3 win over FC Seoul on Thursday, having come on as a substitute against Vissel Kobe last week.
The Dutch international improved in form last season and featured regularly in Hansi Flick’s midfield, having struggled with injuries in the past.
While he was a major transfer target for Manchester United under Erik ten Hag in 2022, interest in the midfielder from other clubs has since cooled as he appears fully committed to remaining at Barcelona.
