France international Dayot Upamecano has extended his Bayern Munich contract until 2030, ending speculation over his future after months of negotiations.

Dayot Upamecano has committed his long-term future to Bayern Munich, signing a four-year contract extension that will keep him at the club until 2030. The reigning Bundesliga champions confirmed the agreement on Friday, ending months of uncertainty surrounding the French defender’s situation.

The 27-year-old joined Bayern from RB Leipzig in 2021 and has since made 180 appearances in all competitions. During his time in Munich, he has lifted three Bundesliga titles and established himself as a central figure in the club’s defence.

Speaking after the announcement, Upamecano expressed his delight at remaining with the Bavarian giants. “I’m really happy to be staying at Bayern and continuing to play in this team. We’ve got a great team and a great coach. We’ve got big goals together,” he said, adding that his aim is to win as many trophies as possible and deliver consistent clean sheets.

Upamecano’s performances have improved under Vincent Kompany, who took charge in 2024. Bayern sporting director Christoph Freund praised the defender’s development, describing him as a “truly world-class defender and leader” whose qualities are invaluable to the squad.

The new contract brings an end to a prolonged negotiation process. With his previous deal due to expire this summer, Upamecano had been linked with moves to Real Madrid, Paris Saint-Germain and several Premier League clubs. Reports suggested he had missed a club-imposed deadline to decide on his future, and Bayern powerbroker Uli Hoeness publicly criticised his agent earlier this year.

Despite the tension, Bayern ultimately secured his signature by agreeing to a substantial signing-on bonus and inserting a release clause that becomes active in 2027.

Bayern sit six points clear at the top of the Bundesliga and have already booked their place in the Champions League round of 16, reinforcing their ambitions for further success.
