Club announced the player has been diagnosed with a loose joint in his right knee
Real Madrid captain Dani Carvajal is set for another spell on the sidelines after the club confirmed he will undergo arthroscopic surgery on his right knee.
The 33-year-old felt discomfort following Madrid’s 2-1 win over Barcelona on Sunday, where he came off the bench in the second half. Tests afterwards revealed a loose joint, which medical staff believe requires minor surgery.
“Following tests carried out on our captain, Dani Carvajal, by the Real Madrid Medical Services, he has been diagnosed with a loose joint in his right knee,” the club said in a statement. “Carvajal will undergo arthroscopy.”
The arthroscopy procedure is used to examine and repair joint damage. Although it is a minor surgery, recovery typically takes several weeks, which means Carvajal will not be available until early January.
Carvajal’s appearance in the clásico was his first since sustaining a calf injury during September’s 5-2 loss to Atletico Madrid. The defender had only just returned to full fitness when the latest setback occurred.
The knee in question is the same one Carvajal injured just over a year ago, leaving him sidelined for nearly the entire 2024-25 season.
