United have met the terms stated in the forward’s release clause, with all aspects of the deal expected to be finalised by 1 June
Matheus Cunha will undergo a medical at Manchester United in the coming days after Wolves gave the Brazilian permission to complete his £62.5 million move to Old Trafford this summer.
United have met the terms stated in the forward’s contract, with all aspects of the deal expected to be finalised on 1 June, the day the summer transfer window opens. The Red Devils will pay Cunha’s release clause in a three-part payment structure over two years, after Wolves rejected an initial proposal of a five-year payment, according to The Athletic.
Cunha, who joined Wolves from Atletico Madrid in January 2023, has enjoyed a standout season, netting 17 goals and providing six assists across all competitions. His 15 Premier League goals were instrumental in helping Wolves remain in the top flight.
Cunha has operated effectively as a No 10 in Wolves’ 3-4-2-1 system, showing an ability to drive forward and create opportunities. His playing style fits well with Amorim’s tactical approach and the goals he brings will make him a valuable addition to a United side starved of those.
The transfer comes amid a significant squad overhaul at Old Trafford, with United aiming to bounce back from a disappointing season that saw them finish 15th in the Premier League.
The club are also pursuing Ipswich Town’s Liam Delap, who has a £30 million release clause. A key transfer strategy at United this summer is to make signings that will hit the ground running. This has been done by targeting players with proven Premier League experience like Cunha and Delap.
