“The moment Maresca left, it had a big impact on us. These are decisions taken by the club. If you asked me, I would not have made this decision. To make a change like that, the best thing is to wait until the end of the season.”

The defender emphasized that Maresca’s approach inspired players to give everything on the pitch. According to Cucurella, when a manager shows trust and provides a platform to compete for trophies, it motivates the squad to fully commit to his vision.
Cucurella’s comments reflect the respect Maresca earned during his time at Stamford Bridge. The Italian’s tenure was marked by his ability to empower individuals while building unity across the dressing room.
Cucurella also spoke on the current state of the club and the decision to sack Maresca.
“These are decisions taken by the club. If you asked me, I would not have made this decision,” the 27-year-old told The Athletic. “To make a change like that, the best thing is to wait until the end of the season. You would give everyone, the players and the new manager, time to get ready, have a full pre-season.

“The instability around the club comes from this, in a nutshell. We had a caretaker manager first, then a new manager, with new ideas and no time to work on them. It is what it is.”
He also spoke about the current policy at the club saying “We have a good core of players,” he added. “The foundations are there. But to fight for major trophies such as the Premier League or the Champions League, you need more.
“Signing young players only might complicate achieving those goals. Against PSG, we lacked players that had gone through situations like that.”
Cucurella also hinted at uncertainty over his long-term future. The 27-year-old admitted that a return to boyhood club Barcelona would be difficult to turn down if the opportunity arose.
While stressing he remains happy in London, Cucurella acknowledged that such decisions would involve careful consideration. He explained that he and his family are settled but did not rule out a move in the coming years.
The Spaniard added that he is not actively seeking a transfer at the moment. However, he admitted that if Barcelona made an approach, he would need to evaluate the situation before making a final decision.
Cucurella is not the only Chelsea player linked with a potential exit. Enzo Fernández has been associated with interest from Real Madrid, while Cole Palmer has also reportedly expressed frustration, adding to speculation around possible changes at Stamford Bridge.
