Crystal Palace have turned down Atalanta’s £30m bid for fan favourite Jean-Philippe Mateta, who has averaged 15 Premier League goals over the last two seasons.

Crystal Palace have rejected a £30m bid from Atalanta for fan favourite Jean-Philippe Mateta, despite the Italian club’s interest in strengthening their squad. Mateta, who won the 2025 FA Cup with Crystal Palace, has been in impressive form, scoring 41 goals in 104 appearances across all competitions over the last two years.

The 28-year-old striker’s contract extension clause was triggered in December, and he now has two years remaining on his deal, set to expire in the summer of 2027.

Atalanta’s bid, worth €34.7m, was deemed insufficient by Crystal Palace, who are likely to demand a higher fee for their star player.

Atalanta are pushing to sign Mateta as they want to replace Mateo Retegui, who was sold to Saudi Pro League side Al-Qadsiah for a staggering €65m fee earlier this summer.

However, Crystal Palace’s rejection of Atalanta’s bid doesn’t necessarily mean the transfer saga is over. It’s possible that Atalanta may return with an improved offer, which Crystal Palace might consider.

In the meantime, Atalanta are exploring alternative options to strengthen their squad. Potential targets include Fulham striker Rodrigo Muniz, Lecce’s Nikola Krstovic, and Genk’s Tolu Arokodare. Atalanta’s squad dynamics have also been affected by the potential departure of Ademola Lookman, who Inter are reportedly pursuing.
