The head coach won the club’s first ever trophy in May but has been reluctant to sign a new deal
Crystal Palace are preparing alternatives to replace Oliver Glasner should the manager leave at the end of the season.
Glasner’s current deal expires this summer and, despite ongoing discussions, Palace have yet to receive a clear indication that the Austrian intends to stay. Senior figures at Selhurst Park maintain that negotiations remain open, but there is a growing belief inside the club that Glasner may choose to let his contract run down and join another club instead.
Glasner led Palace to win the first major trophy in their history when they defeated Manchester City at Wembley in May to secure the FA Cup. The victory also ensured that Palace qualified for Europe for the first time. However, there are signs that the manager is much more ambitious than the club, after he consistently complained about not making proper signings to replace those who have been sold.
Palace have sold Michael Olise to Bayern Munich and Eberechi Eze to Arsenal, and they could yet lose captain Marc Guehi to Liverpool in January, after the England defender told the club he would not sign a new contract.
That uncertainty has prompted Palace to accelerate their succession planning. They are understood to have compiled a list of potential replacements should they be forced into a change.
If Glasner leaves there would no shortage of suitors, with his stock having risen dramatically following his exploits in London.
