Inter head coach Cristian Chivu brushes off criticism, focusing on preparing his team for the upcoming match against Sassuolo in Serie A.

Cristian Chivu, Inter’s head coach, is unfazed by the criticism surrounding his team. Despite a disappointing start to the season, which has left Inter in 12th place in the table, Chivu remains focused on the task at hand. “I have a thousand other things to think about,” he said, dismissing the noise from critics.

The Nerazzurri return to Serie A action against Sassuolo on Sunday, following their 2-0 victory over Ajax in the Champions League. Chivu believes that his team deserves to be defended, citing their strong group dynamic and quality players.

“The team deserves to be defended because it’s a strong group. The whole world was talking about them in March, then they had a bit of misfortune,” he said.

Chivu also provided updates on the two Martinez players in his squad. Lautaro Martinez is available to face Sassuolo after struggling with back pains earlier in the week. “Lautaro trained with us today. He always gives his best and has great understanding, even in the difficult moments,” Chivu said. Meanwhile, goalkeeper Josep Martinez is expected to start in place of Yann Sommer.

Chivu praised Lautaro’s dedication and attitude, saying that he would have been willing to come on despite his struggles with back pain. “He couldn’t even walk on Wednesday, but he came to sit on the bench and would have been willing to come on,” he said.

As for Sassuolo, Chivu warned that they are a well-prepared and serious team that can give Inter trouble. “Sassuolo are a well-prepared and serious team who can give us trouble. We need to be ready from every point of view,” he said.

If Lautaro Martinez doesn’t start, Chivu hinted that Pio Esposito could be given an opportunity up front. “Pio has quality and hunger and is doing really well. I like the way he presents himself in training,” he said. However, Chivu wants to keep his options open, saying, “I have to leave you with some doubts.”

Despite the challenges ahead, Chivu remains confident in his team’s abilities. “The team is keeping me calm,” he said, emphasizing that he believes in the players and their potential to succeed.
