23-year-old is set to face the champions at their home ground in only his second Premier League appearance
Manchester United goalkeeper Senne Lammens will face the most daunting challenge of his fledgling Premier League career this weekend when Ruben Amorim’s side travel to Anfield to meet champions Liverpool, and he’s already received a few words of advice from Belgium’s number one, Thibaut Courtois.
The 23-year-old, who joined United from Royal Antwerp for £18.2m in the summer, impressed on his debut with a clean sheet in a 2-0 win over Sunderland before the international break.
But a visit to Anfield, where Liverpool have lost only three of their last 83 league matches, represents an entirely different kind of test.
“It’s a hard stadium. Maybe I should tell him to clap the home fans when he arrives at the Kop!” joked Courtois.
Courtois has played at Anfield several times himself, during the four years he spent as Chelsea’s first-choice goalkeeper before joining Real Madrid in 2018.
He acknowledged that it was “always a tough game” there, but backed his compatriot to excel in goal for United.
“His first game was a flavour of what United will get,” said Courtois.
“He’s a tall guy, he is not afraid to come on crosses, and he’s a kid with personality. I’m sure he can do a good job.
“He has a tough game this weekend, so I hope if he plays, it will go well for him. All the best to him.”
