Napoli manager Antonio Conte has been banned for two matches after his red-card reaction to a penalty decision during Napoli’s 2-2 draw with Inter Milan.
Conte was sent off for insulting match officials and kicking a ball towards the pitch edge.
The Serie A disciplinary committee explained that Conte approached the fourth official in an intimidating manner, repeating insulting remarks. This behavior led to the two-match suspension, which will see Conte miss Wednesday’s match against Parma and Saturday’s home clash with Sassuolo.
Conte’s ban is a significant blow for Napoli, who are currently third in the Italian league with 39 points, four behind leaders Inter Milan. The former Italy coach had won the Italian championship in his first season at Napoli last May.
The incident occurred midway through the second half when Inter was awarded a penalty, which Hakan Calhanoglu converted. Conte’s reaction was intense, with reports suggesting he shouted “shame on you all” at the officials.
Napoli’s next match is against Parma on Wednesday, and they’ll be without Conte’s guidance. Assistant coach Cristian Stellini will take charge in his absence.
