Chelsea Winger Mykhailo Mudryk Could Be Banned For Four Years

Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk faces a potential four-year ban after being charged with doping offenses by the FA.

Chelsea winger Mykhailo Mudryk has been charged by the Football Association with violating anti-doping rules after failing a routine urine test. The 24-year-old Ukraine international was provisionally suspended in December and could face a four-year ban if found guilty of intentionally taking a prohibited substance.

Mudryk has been unable to play or train with Chelsea since his suspension, although the club is supporting him and his mental wellbeing.

In December, Mudryk expressed shock at the failed test, stating he had “never knowingly used any banned substances.” Chelsea also released a statement saying they would work to establish the cause of the failed test, while manager Enzo Maresca expressed trust in Mudryk.

The FA confirmed the charges, citing regulations 3 and 4 of its anti-doping regulations, which allege the presence and/or use of a prohibited substance. As the case is ongoing, the FA declined to comment further.

Under FA rules, Mudryk has the right to request analysis of the B sample from the urine test. If the B sample confirms the adverse finding, charges will be brought, and Mudryk can either accept the consequences or request a hearing.

Mudryk signed with Chelsea in January 2023 in a deal worth up to £89 million and is under contract until June 2031. He has scored 10 goals in 73 appearances for the Blues. The outcome of this case will determine the future of Mudryk’s career with Chelsea.

The potential ban could significantly impact Mudryk’s career, and the player’s next steps will be crucial in determining the outcome.
