Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca confirms the club will enter the transfer market to sign a new centre-back following Levi Colwill’s ACL injury.
Chelsea manager Enzo Maresca has confirmed that the club will prioritize signing a new centre-back following Levi Colwill’s ACL injury. Colwill, who tore his ACL just two days after reporting for pre-season training, is likely to miss most of the 2025-26 season.
Despite having several options at the heart of the defense, including Trevoh Chalobah, Wesley Fofana, Tosin Adarabioyo, Benoit Badiashile, and Josh Acheampong, Maresca believes another quality signing is necessary.
“It’s a priority for me to get a new centre-back,” Maresca stated after Chelsea’s 2-0 pre-season friendly win over Bayer Leverkusen at Stamford Bridge.
With Colwill’s absence, the team’s defensive lineup will rely heavily on the existing options. However, Maresca seems determined to bolster the squad with a new signing to ensure the team’s competitiveness in the upcoming season.
Chelsea’s Premier League campaign is just around the corner, with their first match scheduled against Crystal Palace on August 17. As the team prepares for the new season, Maresca’s priority will be to finalize the squad and make any necessary adjustments to ensure a strong start.
