Chelsea defeated Legia Warszawa 3-0 in the first leg of their UEFA Conference League quarter-final tie in Poland.
While the Blues were dominant in the first half, racking up over 70 per cent of the possession, they struggled to create meaningful chances. They came closest when Dewsbury-Hall struck the ball cleanly from a rebound, but Legia goalkeeper Tobiasz made an excellent dive to keep it out.
Legia, missing some key players, had an overall decent first half where they defended well against a confident and clearly superior Chelsea side and created chances on the counter.
However, in the second half the Premier League side opened the scoring when youngster Tyrique George turned in the rebound after goalkeeper Tobiasz had spilled Reece James’s long-range shot. With a goal to show for their dominance, Chelsea added an extra level of swagger to their game and soon extended their lead when Noni Madueke scored from a Jadon Sancho assist.
Nkunku had a penalty saved in the 73rd minute after Legia midfielder Patryk Kun had fouled the lively Dewsbury-Hall. However, Chelsea got the third anyway just seconds after, when Noni Madueke moved quickest to tap in another Jadon Sancho pass, leaving the second leg at Stamford Bridge a mere formality.
