Chelsea has been slapped with a £150,000 fine by the English FA after a plastic bottle was thrown from their technical area towards Aston Villa’s staff following a 2-1 loss at Stamford Bridge on December 27.
An independent regulator imposed the fine after Chelsea admitted to the charge. Referee Stuart Atwell had written in his report that an unidentified member of Chelsea’s technical area threw the bottle towards the Aston Villa technical area.
The FA deemed the action “dangerous” and noted it could have provoked a reaction from Villa’s staff. Chelsea’s admission of guilt and cooperation with the investigation likely influenced the fine’s severity.
Chelsea, currently sixth in the Premier League, will face Crystal Palace on Sunday, while Aston Villa, now third, travel to Newcastle United.
