Chelsea defender Wesley Fofana has removed all references to the club from his Instagram account, sparking intense speculation about his future at Stamford Bridge. This move comes after Fofana was an unused substitute in Chelsea’s 0-0 draw with Crystal Palace on Sunday. 

Chelsea boss Enzo Maresca explained that Fofana was being eased back into action after a five-month hamstring injury, which might explain why he didn’t feature in the match.

Maresca’s decision to leave Fofana on the bench was reportedly to allow him to gradually return to full fitness. However, Fofana’s Instagram purge has raised questions about his commitment to Chelsea. In 2022, Fofana made a similar move when trying to force his way out of Leicester, which led to his eventual transfer to Chelsea for £75 million.

While Fofana’s future at the club seems unsure, Maresca has emphasised the need for Chelsea to sign a new centre-back before the transfer window closes, following Levi Colwill’s ACL injury. With Fofana’s contract running until 2029, Chelsea might consider selling him to fund further squad reinforcements.
