Chelsea needed a spirited second half performance to beat Cardiff and secure a place in the EFL cup semi-finals.
Chelsea were once again lacklustre in the first half as they had most of the ball but did little or nothing with it. The Blues failed to threaten the Cardiff goal and Cardiff looked the most likely side to open the scoring.
However, all that changed when Lawlor gifted Chelsea a goal. The Cardiff defender’s pass was cut out by Garnacho who found Buonanotte and upon receiving the return pass, Garnacho found the bottom corner to give Chelsea the lead.
Chelsea once again dropped the tempo, allowing Cardiff to have most of the ball and they paid for it. Cardiff levelled the game in the 75th minute through Turnbull, adding an exciting end to the game.
Cardiff made Chelsea work every second of the last 25 minutes but the Blues took back the lead after a well-worked goal which was slotted into the net by Pedro Neto.
Chelsea then added a third through Garnacho to make it 3-1. Garnacho now has four goals in Chelsea colors.
It wasn’t an exciting game from a Chelsea perspective but a win is a win and the Blues are now in the EFL cup semi-finals.
