Chelsea forward Cole Palmer dismisses the idea that the team’s Champions League campaign is a ‘learning curve,’ emphasising their desire to be competitive from the start.
Chelsea’s 3-1 defeat to Bayern Munich in the Champions League may have raised some eyebrows, but forward Cole Palmer is adamant that the team isn’t looking to use this season as a “learning curve.”
Instead, Palmer believes Chelsea is ready to compete at the highest level and do as best as they can. “We are not coming here for it to be a learning curve,” Palmer said. “We have shown tonight we want to compete and we want to do as best as we can.”
The team’s recent success, including winning the Club World Cup in July and the Conference League earlier this year, has given them the confidence to take on the best teams in Europe.
However, former Chelsea forward Pat Nevin wasn’t surprised by the team’s performance against Bayern Munich, saying it was the kind of result he expected. “A lot of people were saying beforehand that they were going to break into this competition, they are Club World Cup champions and all of that, but I was thinking, ‘steady on,'” Nevin said.
Despite the defeat, Chelsea’s head coach Enzo Maresca believes his team can take plenty from the experience and “build something special.” The team’s youth and inexperience may have shown against Bayern Munich, but Maresca is confident that they can learn from their mistakes and improve.
