Chelsea have advanced discussions with Manchester United over a deal for Alejandro Garnacho, with the winger open to a move to Stamford Bridge this summer.

United have set a £50m asking price for the 21-year-old, who is believed to be considering either moving to Stamford Bridge or remaining at Old Trafford. No other clubs are currently being considered.

Garnacho’s future at United became uncertain when Amorim arrived at the club last year and there was no obvious fit for the player in his 3-4-3 system.

During United’s pre-season tour in the United States this summer, Amorim said Garnacho was “really talented” but wanted to try a fresh start elsewhere.

“You can see he’s a really talented boy,” said Amorim. “Sometimes things don’t work out. You cannot explain specifically what it is.

“But I have the feeling, I think it’s clear that Garnacho wants a different thing with a different leadership and I can understand that. So I think it’s not a problem.”

Chelsea’s interest in Garnacho is not new. They targeted the player in the January transfer window – although he ultimately remained at United – and have maintained that interest this summer.

Last season, the London club signed another Manchester United winger on loan, in the form of Jadon Sancho, and would have made the transfer permanent this summer but for a lack of agreement over wages.

Amorim has said that if no club matches United’s valuation of the player, he would stay at Old Trafford and be reintegrated into the team.
