Chelsea have added Facundo Buonanotte to their UEFA Champions League squad, replacing Dario Essugo, who suffered a thigh injury.

Chelsea FC has made an update to their Champions League squad by adding Facundo Buonanotte, replacing Dario Essugo, who underwent surgery for a thigh injury sustained while on international duty with Portugal Under-21s.

Essugo’s injury is expected to keep him sidelined for at least 12 weeks. This change was made possible by UEFA’s recent adjustment to Article 31.14 C of the Champions League regulations, allowing clubs to make temporary replacements due to significant injuries.

Buonanotte joined Chelsea on loan from Brighton late in the transfer window and initially didn’t make the Champions League squad due to UEFA’s squad limits.

However, with Essugo’s injury, Buonanotte is now eligible to play in the Champions League. He made his Chelsea debut as a starter in the 2-2 Premier League draw against Brentford on Saturday and could make an impact against Bayern Munich in Chelsea’s Champions League opener.
