“I will carry Manchester United with me throughout my entire life,” says Brazilian

Casemiro will leave Manchester United after his contract expires at the end of the season, the player has announced.

The 33-year-old confirmed on social media on Thursday that he would be ending his stay at the club in the summer.

In a post accompanying a video posted on Instagram, the Brazilian said: “Knowing when stages come to an end. Knowing when to say goodbye when you feel that you will be remembered and respected forever.

“Four months to give my all for this badge and for our goal. Eternal respect and affection for Manchester United and its wonderful fans. Forever Red Devil.”

United also confirmed the development on their website.

In the official club statement, Casemiro said: “I will carry Manchester United with me throughout my entire life.

“From the first day that I walked out at this beautiful stadium, I felt the passion of Old Trafford and the love that I now share with our supporters for this special club.

“It is not time to say goodbye; there are many more memories to create during the next four months.”

The Brazilian’s contract runs out in June and there had been speculation since the start of this season over whether he would be offered an additional year.

There is an option in the player’s contract to extend for an extra year but United have chosen not to exercise it.

Casemiro also had the option of triggering the extension himself if he were to start up to 35 games this season. He has so far started 19, and United have only 16 games left to play, which means he would have to start every single game for United until the end of the season to be able to exercise that option.

But evidently both parties have come to an agreement that it is time to part ways. Casemiro joined United in 2022 under coach Erik ten Hag and quickly became a fan favourite due to the quality he instantly added to the midfield.

The Brazilian won two trophies in his four-year stay at the club: the Carabao Cup in 2023 and the FA Cup in 2024. He has played 146 games and scored 21 goals to date.

Casemiro’s last home game for United will be against Nottingham Forest, when the club and supporters will give him a send-off.
