Brazilian vows to return the club to the Champions League before his departure

Casemiro has said his decision to leave Manchester United at the end of the season will not change despite fans and teammates wanting him to stay.

The 34-year-old midfielder, who has scored seven goals for United this season and two in his last three appearances, is set to depart when his contract expires after four seasons at Old Trafford.

“I am still enjoying it a lot [in Manchester],” Casemiro said. “It is huge, the affection that the fans have shown towards me. But I do really believe the decision is made and done. I believe it will be some difficult moments, these [final] games at Manchester United.”

Casemiro has been revitalised under interim manager Michael Carrick, and praised the former United midfielder’s influence on the team.

“Above all, Michael is a specialist in my position on the field, he was a truly great player,” he said. “That makes everything much easier and he is always talking to us. I feel like we are in a good dynamic right now in Manchester and my objective now is to get the club back into the Champions League.”

Since Carrick replaced Ruben Amorim on an interim basis, United have won seven of their last 10 matches to move up to third in the table.

Casemiro, who previously spent a decade at Real Madrid, is expected to play a key role in the final weeks of the season. United are third in the table with seven games remaining.
