The Brazilian midfielder is aiming to push Manchester United to trophy wins because he “always wants more”
Casemiro’s Manchester United career looked to be winding down just months ago, but a rejuvenated role under manager Ruben Amorim could now see the veteran midfielder remain at Old Trafford for the long term.
The 33-year-old has been a central figure in United’s European campaign so far and may yet play a pivotal role as the club seek to win their third major trophy in three years and the first under Amorim.
Written off earlier this season amid criticism over form and fitness, Casemiro has since silenced his doubters with commanding performances, delivering when it has mattered in the Europa League.
The Brazilian supplied two assists in the quarter-final against Lyon that led to an outrageous comeback, which saw United score three goals in seven minutes to knock out their French opponents. He then followed that up with two crucial goals in both legs of the semi-final victory over Athletic Club, helping United seal a spot in the final against Tottenham Hotspur.
Speaking about his role at the club, Casemiro said: “I have won what I have won. But I always want more. I always want to earn it, to win, that is the winning mentality.
“Whether I play or don’t play, I am there every day. That is me as a person, that is me. Whether I play or not, all I want is for United to win.
“I want to help in any way I can, I will be there. This is my mentality. That is why I have won what I have won in my career.”
With his contract running until 2026 and no immediate pressure from the club to move him on, Casemiro could now see out the rest of his contract at Old Trafford, contrary to earlier speculation linking him with a move to Saudi Arabia or back to Brazil.
Amorim is expected to bring in younger reinforcements in the summer, but Casemiro’s mentality and big-game experience could remain crucial for United going forward.
