Fourth-round fixtures will be played in the last week of October
Liverpool will face Crystal Palace in the fourth round of the Carabo Cup, in a repeat of their Community Shield match at the start of the season.
The Premier League champions managed to squeeze past Championship side Southampton 2-1 with a late goal at Anfield on Tuesday to qualify for the last 16, while Palace secured their place with a penalty shoot-out victory over Millwall, also in the Championship.
Fourth-round ties will be played in the last week of October. But Liverpool and Palace will first play each other in the Premier League on 27 September, when the champions visit Selhurst Park.
In other areas of the competition, Newcastle will travel to London to face Tottenham Hotspur. Eddie Howe’s side swept past Bradford 4-1 at St James’ Park on Wednesday night, while Thomas Frank’s team were 3-0 winners at home to Doncaster.
Arsenal will face Brighton at the Emirates after beating Port Vale 2-0. Brighton thrashed Barnsley 6-0 to qualify, and that after destroying Championship side Oxford United by a similar margin in the second round last month.
Pep Guardiola’s Manchester City have kinder opposition, as they are up against Swansea, while Chelsea will face Wolves at Molineaux.
