Madrid staff are reluctant to accelerate the midfielder’s return, mindful of the series of setbacks he has faced in the past
Eduardo Camavinga will remain unavailable for Real Madrid this weekend, with the midfielder yet to recover from the ankle sprain that has kept him sidelined since before the start of the season.
The 22-year-old picked up the injury to his right ankle ten days ahead of Madrid’s opening league fixture and was unable to train with the squad until this week, when he engaged in some partial sessions.
The club had initially hoped he could return to action after the international break, but his recovery has taken longer than expected. Madrid staff are reluctant to accelerate his return, mindful of the series of setbacks that affected his campaign last season.
Injuries have been a recurring theme for Camavinga over the past two years. He missed more than half of last season with a knee and then a hamstring injury. In the previous year, also missed a large number of games due to a torn knee ligament.
Camavinga is not Madrid’s only absentee. Jude Bellingham, Endrick and Ferland Mendy are also unavailable. However, Antonio Rudiger, who had surgery at the end of last season, is fit and has already played a game for the club, starting in Madrid’s 3-0 win over Real Oviedo.
