Cagliari beat AS Roma 1-0 thanks to a late winner from Gaetano to sink Roma’s title hopes.

Cagliari pulled off a stunning 1-0 win over 10-man AS Roma at the Unipol Domus, dealing a blow to Roma’s Serie A title hopes. Gianluca Gaetano scored the winning goal in the 82nd minute, marking his first league goal of the campaign.

The match took an unexpected turn when Roma defender Zeki Celik was sent off in the 49th minute for bringing down Michael Folorunsho just outside the box. Despite playing with 10 men, Roma had been dominating possession, but Cagliari’s momentum shifted after the red card.

Cagliari could have taken the lead earlier, but Roma goalkeeper Mile Svilar made impressive saves to keep the score level at halftime. The hosts continued to press, and their efforts paid off when Gaetano scored the winning goal from a corner kick.

Roma’s struggles in front of goal continued, with just one shot on target before halftime. Their 27 points are their best at this stage of a season since 2017/18, but they’ve netted just 15 times in 13 league games.

The defeat leaves Roma in fourth place, three points behind leaders Inter Milan. Cagliari, on the other hand, moves four points clear of the relegation zone with their first win in 10 Serie A matches.
