Captain says it means a great deal to have the opportunity to represent the club

Bruno Fernandes says he feels settled at Manchester United and believes the club has the potential to compete for the biggest honours in the near future.

The United captain is enjoying a strong season, registering 16 Premier League assists as the team pushes for Champions League qualification. Amid ongoing speculation about his future, Fernandes made it clear he feels at home in Manchester.

“When you are so long in a place you kind of feel part of it,” Fernandes said. “And obviously I’m very proud of my nation. And I love my country and I love to be there.

“But obviously I feel at home at Manchester. My kids feel at home here. So it’s wonderful for me to be in a place where my kids can enjoy so much and feel so much at home as they do in Manchester.”

Fernandes also spoke about what it means to represent United and the expectations that come with it, insisting success must always be the target.

“First of all, you have to understand the place you are, how much it means to be here, not just for everyone on the outside.

“When we see fans, whatever is around the world, we know how much it means for every player that has the chance and the opportunity to represent this club. And obviously I think to achieve it, this club will always be winning trophies and that’s all every player wants to do when it comes to this club.

“You could be in the worst position as you want, but there is no player that comes to this club and never thinks about winning the Premier League, the Champions League, the Carabao Cup, anything that you could be involved.

“You are going to always think that at this club you can achieve anything.”
