United have made enquiries through intermediaries about the possibility of a deal for the midfielder

Brighton have placed a €120m (£105m) valuation on Manchester United midfield target Carlos Baleba.

United have made enquiries through intermediaries about the possibility of a deal for the Cameroonian, although they understand that a deal would be difficult to do.

Head coach Ruben Amorim wants a dynamic midfielder to fix some of his side’s gaping midfield issues.

A move for the player might be unlikely, given that United have just concluded an €85m (£74m) deal for RB Leipzig striker Benjamin Sesko to take their summer spending north of £200m.

However, funds may well become available for the transfer if United move on some assets who are for sale, especially Alejandro Garnacho. The Argentinian is on Chelsea’s radar and United value him at £50m.

Baleba is understood to be content at Brighton and is happy to stay another season at the Amex. The player has a contract until 2028 and Brighton hold an option to extend for a further year.

Brighton signed Baleba for €30m from Lille in 2023. The midfielder has since made 77 appearances for the Seagulls. Lille are entitled to 20 per cent of any future profit on the player’s sale due to a sell-on clause.
