Club boss Keith Andrews says the forward “suits the way we want to play”
Brentford have signed Dango Ouattara from Bournemouth in a deal worth up to £42.5m, the most expensive transfer in the club’s history.
The 23-year-old Burkina Faso international has agreed a five-year contract with the option of an additional season. He arrives in west London as a direct replacement for Bryan Mbeumo, who joined Manchester United earlier this summer.
Ouattara scored nine goals in 37 appearances in all competitions for Bournemouth last season but never fully established himself as a regular starter. He joined the Cherries from Lorient in January 2023.
Brentford boss Keith Andrews said the forward had been high on the club’s radar once it became clear he might be available.
“We liked his Premier League experience, even though he’s still young,” said Andrews. “He just hasn’t found the rhythm yet because of a lack of consistent game time.
“He suits the way we want to play. He has something that we were lacking in the forward line, and he will complement what we already have in the building.”
Ouattara’s move comes amid uncertainty over the future of Yoane Wissa, who has told the club he wants to leave.
Newcastle United had a £30m package rejected for the DR Congo international this month, and he has been left out of the squad for Sunday’s opener at Nottingham Forest.
