Italian was appointed in May on a one-year deal

The Brazilian Football Confederation is reportedly in advanced talks with Carlo Ancelotti over a contract extension that could keep the 66-year-old at the helm of the national team until 2030.

Ancelotti, Brazil’s first foreign head coach, took charge in May on a one-year deal that would cover the 2026 World Cup. He replaced Dorival Junior, who was dismissed in March after 14 months in charge.

Since his appointment, Ancelotti has overseen Brazil’s final four qualifiers for the 2026 World Cup, recording two wins, one draw, and one loss to secure fifth place in South America’s round-robin format, maintaining the nation’s perfect record of qualifying for every tournament.

In international friendlies, Brazil beat South Korea in October, lost to Japan, and later in November defeated Senegal and drew with Tunisia.

CBF president Samir Xaud expressed optimism over extending the Italian’s tenure.

“I see this conversation in a positive light,” said Xaud. “He already said in an interview that it depends on both sides. I always believe in building a working relationship. Everything is there for it to succeed.”

The 2026 World Cup in North America will mark Ancelotti’s first time managing a national team at the tournament, though he was Arrigo Sacchi’s assistant when Italy reached the final in 1994. Brazil are aiming for their first World Cup win since 2002, having won the competition a record five times.
