English FA review confirms that Bournemouth striker Evanilson had slipped as he tackled Noussair Mazraoui

Bournemouth striker Evanilson is available for selection in the upcoming Premier League fixture against Arsenal, after the club successfully appealed the red card he received during the 1-1 draw with Manchester United on Sunday.

The Brazilian forward was sent off in the 70th minute following a VAR review that upgraded his initial yellow card to a red for a challenge on United’s Noussair Mazraoui.

However, the English Football Association’s independent regulatory commission has rescinded the red card and the accompanying three-match suspension. It was acknowledged that Evanilson had slipped before the collision, meaning that the contact was accidental rather than serious foul play.

The decision was met with derision by fans, who argued that the forward should not have been sent off in the first place, with the decision potentially costing their team a place in Europe next season. Evanilson’s dismissal occurred with Bournemouth leading 1-0, and the team eventually conceded a stoppage-time equaliser when Man United’s Rasmus Hojlund scored at the death. Notably, the VAR review failed to flag the event as a slip.

The Cherries are currently 10th in the Premier League standings, one point behind Fulham and Brighton, with four matches remaining. A win against United could have taken them to eighth-place, keeping up hopes of securing a spot in next season’s UEFA Conference League, depending on the outcome of the FA Cup final.
