Borussia Dortmund bounced back from defeat with a 4-2 win over FC Copenhagen, thanks to Felix Nmecha’s brace.
Borussia Dortmund made a lively start to their Champions League match against FC Copenhagen, with Julian Brandt and Yan Couto almost linking up inside the opening minute. The Danish side hit back, with ex-Schalke winger Jordan Larsson feeding Claesson, who stung the palms of Kobel.
Felix Nmecha injected a thunderbolt into the atmosphere, making it 1-0 in the 20th minute with a stunning strike from outside the box. The 25-year-old skipped past Achouri and rifled it to the roof of the net.
Copenhagen restored parity in unusual fashion, with Youssoufa Moukoko’s strike being steered into his own net by a luckless Waldemar Anton. The hosts piled on the pressure thereafter, with the full-back fizzing a shot past the left post from a tight angle.
At halftime, no changes were made to either team. However, the Westphalians regained the lead on the hour when Lerager pulled Serhou Guirassy’s shirt in the box, resulting in a penalty. Bensebaini brushed home the spot-kick, and Niko Kovač instantly called upon the cavalry with triple alteration.
Kovač’s tactical tweaks paid off handsomely, with Chukwuemeka pinching a misplaced pass from William Clem and feeding Nmecha, who scored his second goal of the match. The midfield enjoyed one of his finest displays, benefitting from an acute deflection off Garananga to wrongfoot Kotarski.
Further gloss was added to the scoreboard as Fábio Silva bagged his first goal in BVB colors from a challenging angle that crept through Kotarski’s legs. Copenhagen grabbed a late consolation goal through Viktor Dadason, but it was too little, too late.
The win marks a strong bounce-back performance for Dortmund, who had suffered a defeat in Munich last weekend.
