Norwegian winger has seen his transition into the first team impeded by injury but says he’s now ready to “play as much as possible” and “be decisive”

Manchester City’s Oscar Bobb has said he is ready to fight for his place at the club as he looks to impress at the Club World Cup and put a frustrating year behind him.

The 21-year-old winger had been tipped for a breakthrough season after ending the 2023-24 campaign strongly and catching the eye during City’s pre-season tour. But his momentum was halted when he fractured his leg in training last August. A brief return attempt in February didn’t go to plan, and he only resumed full training and match action in April.

Now fully fit, Bobb has made two substitute appearances during City’s Club World Cup campaign in the United States and is eager for more minutes.

With several departures expected from Pep Guardiola’s bloated squad, the Norwegian is determined to stay and fight for his future.

“I expect to be here,” said Bobb. “I think that’s the way I have to look at it and try and impress every chance I get. I want to play as much as possible, be decisive and play in the big games.”

City have already added four new faces this summer, in addition to the three signed in January, making a total of seven first-team additions in 2025 for a combined cost of £288m. Nevertheless, Bobb is clear that he wants to be part of what’s next.

“It’s a fresh start for me as well as the team and I think from here on out we can just build,” said Bobb. “I think I’m ready now but we’ve got 27 players. If I get a chance to play – it doesn’t matter for how long – I’ll take it.”
