Slovenia striker says squad are “living for each other” and will fight to secure Champions League places
Benjamin Sesko is in an oddly fascinating phase of his fledgling Manchester United career.
With four goals in his last five appearances he is a man in form, and with seven goals and one assist so far this season he is one of United’s more productive players.
For example, only Bryan Mbeumo and Bruno Fernandes have had more goal contributions than Sesko’s eight. And this while the Slovenian has played fewer minutes than most.
With time running out against West Ham at the London Stadium on Tuesday, the 22-year-old stepped up again, delivering a beautiful one-time finish from Mbeumo’s cross to save a point for United.
United will be hoping for much better performances going forward, but his intervention at the death was enough to avoid a morale-sapping result.
“It was just one of those games that was not going to be that easy because especially [West Ham] were stepping back – they were really compact, they were trying to go for the counter-attacks,” Sesko said.
“It’s just something that we have to learn from. I think everyone wanted it, everyone was trying to win the game, to score, to fight for each other. Unfortunately that didn’t happen, but at least we got a draw, which is important in the end.”

Regarding his goal, Sesko said he relished it and couldn’t wait to deliver more special moments like that for the team.
“I felt amazing because at least I know that, once again, I could help the team by trying to secure at least one point,” the 22-year-old said.
“It’s a great feeling for me as well knowing that I can help the team in all kinds of moments. Obviously without my teammates, I couldn’t do it. So I’m looking forward to more moments like this.”
United remain fourth in the table after rivals Chelsea also dropped points against Leeds United. With 12 games to go, Michael Carrick’s side will be aiming to win up to seven of their remaining fixtures, which should be enough to secure a top-five finish and Champions League football next season.
“We are living for each other,” Sesko said. “We are doing everything to win the games, to secure the Champions League spot because we believe that we have the team for it.
“We have the quality and yeah, we’re going to fight towards it. Unfortunately, the game was like it was. We have to now look forward to the next game and try to win it.”
