The England international is expected to be sidelined for 10 to 12 weeks as he recovers from the procedure
Jude Bellingham will undergo surgery on his left shoulder in London this week, ruling the Real Madrid midfielder out for the opening stretch of the 2025-26 campaign.
The 22-year-old England international has been managing the injury for several months, having initially dislocated the shoulder in a match against Rayo Vallecano in November in 2023. He delayed surgery at the time so that he could stay available for Real Madrid.
The player went on to help Madrid win a La Liga and Champions League double, but he never fully recovered. He has played while wearing a shoulder brace since.
Bellingham was particularly uncomfortable during the recent Club World Cup in the United States.
The player said: “I’ll have the surgery done after the tournament. I’m sick of playing with the brace, especially in the heat. It will be nice to have my old shoulder back so I’m really looking forward to it.”
Bellingham is expected to be sidelined for 10 to 12 weeks as he recovers from the procedure, which means he will be out for Madrid until early October. He is set to miss at least the first eight La Liga fixtures and the opening matches of the Champions League’s ‘league phase’.
Madrid are expected to begin their league campaign at home to Osasuna on 19 August. New manager Xabi Alonso will have to navigate the early part of the season without one of his most influential players.
