England’s 19-year-old talent Jobe Bellingham follows in the footsteps of his older brother Jude

Borussia Dortmund have struck a deal with Sunderland to sign Jobe Bellingham, with the 19-year-old midfielder now poised to follow in the footsteps of his older brother Jude by making the switch to Germany.

Dortmund will pay an initial £27.8 million to Sunderland, with up to £4.2 million in potential add-ons, according to Fabrizio Romano. A 15% sell-on clause is also included in the agreement, meaning that Sunderland will have some financial gain when the player ultimately moves on from Dortmund much like his brother did.

The move comes after Bellingham, played a pivotal role in Sunderland’s promotion back to the Premier League, including a strong showing in the Championship play-off final against Sheffield United.

Although Bundesliga side Eintracht Frankfurt were also in talks with the player, Dortmund’s entry quickly shifted the picture, with Bellingham making clear his preference for the club that helped launch his brother into superstardom.

Bellingham impressed throughout the season with his versatility and maturity beyond his years, catching the attention of several major European clubs. Despite Sunderland’s reluctance to sell one of their brightest prospects, the deal suits all parties. The club will be pleased to secure a record-breaking transfer fee, with more money potentially on the cards if Bellingham makes a big-money move in future.

Jude Bellingham made 92 Bundesliga appearances for the club before his £88 million transfer to Real Madrid in 2023 as one of the hottest assets in world football. His brother will now be hoping to carve out his own legacy at the Westfalenstadion.

Bellingham is currently with England’s U21 squad preparing for the upcoming European Championships. He is expected to complete his medical and sign his contract with Dortmund before being officially unveiled by the club.
