Jude Bellingham is delighted to play under Xabi Alonso and enjoys the added flexibility to the squad as he marks his 100th appearance for Real Madrid.

Speaking to Real Madrid TV ahead of the Club World Cup semi-final against Paris Saint-Germain, Bellingham said that the tactical adjustments Alonso has made since his arrival have expanded his game.

“I enjoy seeing where I’m going to play when the lineup comes out,” said Bellingham. “Every match is a new opportunity to take on a different role.

“We’re having fun with the new ideas and the energy around the squad. I’m really enjoying this phase.”

The England international joined Madrid from Borussia Dortmund in 2023 and quickly became a central figure for the club. Under Alonso so far in the Club World Cup he has been deployed both in defensive and attack-minded midfield positions, including in a 3-4-3, 3-5-2 and 4-4-2.

Bellingham said the ability to contribute in both attacking and defensive phases of play is something he takes pride in and Alonso is encouraging him to do so.

Already a Champions League and La Liga winner in his first season in Spain, Bellingham will mark his 100th appearance for Real Madrid in their semi-final clash against Paris Saint-Germain. He admitted that reaching the 100-game milestone feels “very special”.

“Everyone knows that 100 games for Real Madrid is a huge achievement,” said Bellingham. “To have represented this club that many times is a dream come true.”
