“There are signs the manager is turning things around,” says club legend

Manchester United have progressed very slowly under Ruben Amorim but there are signs the club may be moving in the right direction, according to club legend Sir David Beckham.

Amorim was appointed over a year ago, in November 2024, but has found wins hard to come by. Results last season were historic for all the wrong reasons, with United finishing 15th in the Premier League and missing out on European football after losing the Europa League final to Tottenham.

There was also humiliation earlier this season when United were knocked out of the Carabao Cup by League Two side Grimsby. Amorim’s position looked under threat then, but some better performances have eased concerns.

“I think there are signs of the manager turning things around,” Beckham said. “He has tweaked a few things and we are coming into a few better results.

“There’s still a long way to go and there has been a few games where we haven’t been playing as well. But I think we’ve got a good manager there and I think he is changing things slowly.”

United have lost just once in their last seven matches, winning four. A 2-1 comeback victory away at Crystal Palace last weekend showed a fighting spirit that has often been absent. After the game, Amorim himself praised his side’s response to falling behind.

“I think we had more intensity in the second half,” said Amorim. “We played better in the second half and the opponent too, in the second half, was more tired. So, everything is connected.”
