Red Devils boss backs the Turkey international for the advantage of Premier League experience
Manchester United manager Ruben Amorim has confirmed that Altay Bayindir will remain in goal for Sunday’s trip to Manchester City.
Bayindir, who has started all three of United’s Premier League fixtures so far this season, keeps his place after Andre Onana went out on loan to Trabzonspor earlier this week.
Lammens, signed for £18.2m, is regarded as a long-term option and competitor for the No 1 shirt, but will begin on the bench at the Etihad Stadium.
“Altay is going to continue,” Amorim said on Friday. “It’s a different league, a different country, a different ball.
“We are in a moment when the goalkeeper needs to be really strong and have a lot of experience. Senne has great potential, that is one more option to play.”
Bayindir has shown great forward passing ability that has helped United create chances, but he has been shaky in actual goalkeeping, particularly during set pieces. However, the Turkey international has been backed by his manager to handle the pressure of a derby fixture.
United head into the derby seeking to build on their 3-2 victory over Burnley, after mixed results and feelings against Arsenal and Fulham. City, meanwhile, will be looking to recover from a faltering start to the campaign that has seen them beat Wolves in their first game but then lose to Tottenham and Brighton.
“We believe a lot in our goalkeepers,” said Amorim. “I believe in Altay. He’s ready to play.”
