Bayern Munich have suffered another blow ahead of their game against the game against Borussia Dortmund as reports have confirmed that defender Hiroki Ito is set for another spell on the sidelines.ย
The club announced on Friday that the Japan international picked up a hamstring injury during training, a setback that couldn’t have come at a worse time. Sporting director Christoph Freund confirmed that the 26-year-old will be out for at least two to three weeks, effectively ending his hopes of participating in the season’s biggest domestic fixture.
The timing of the injury is particularly brutal as it rules Ito out of Saturdayโs high-stakes trip to face Borussia Dortmund. Beyond the immediate league impact, there are also serious doubts about his availability for Bayernโs upcoming Champions League knockout tie against Atalanta in March.ย

Itoโs journey at Bayern has been defined by frustration since his move from Stuttgart in 2024. This latest hamstring issue is just the latest in a “torrid” run of luck; he managed only six league appearances in his debut season due to a fractured bone in his foot. Even this current campaign has been stop-start, as he already missed the first 10 matches while recovering from a separate foot injury.
The injury list doesn’t end with Ito, making the defensive selection for the Dortmund game a real puzzle. Reports from the training ground suggest that Alphonso Davies and Manuel Neuer are also set to miss the game. Neuer was seen driving home as Bayernโs team bus left for the airport.
These absences have been the order of the day at Bayern Munich but the Bundesliga champions have shown resilience in the past. All eyes will be on the team sheet tomorrow to see how many risks the manager is willing to take with a squad that is currently held together by grit and medical tape.
