Bayern Munich no longer have to sign Chelsea loanee Nicolas Jackson permanently after failing to hit the 40‑game start clause.
Bayern Munich have officially closed the door to any compulsory purchase of Nicolas Jackson. The loan deal with Chelsea carried a clause that forced the German giants to buy the Senegalese forward only if he started at least 40 Bundesliga or Champions League matches this season.
Jackson has started fulfilling the condition in just six games where he started and played a full 45 minutes. With only 23 league fixtures and a maximum of ten Champions League games left, reaching the required 40 starts is mathematically impossible.
Even if the calendar allowed more matches, the DFB‑Pokal wasn’t part of the clause, and Jackson’s upcoming call‑up to Senegal for the African Cup of Nations could pull him out of crucial fixtures.
Honorary president Uli Hoeneß had already warned that the obligation was “never going to happen,” and the numbers now confirm his view.
Despite the looming exit, Jackson isn’t struggling in Munich. He’s racked up four goals and one assist in 457 minutes across all competitions, showing flashes of the talent Chelsea hoped to keep.
For now, Bayern fans will watch closely to see if his form can earn a future move, loan extension, or even a surprise permanent deal.
