Bayern Munich’s Luis Diaz receives a three-match ban for serious rough play, missing games against Arsenal, Sporting, and Union Saint-Gilloise.

Bayern Munich’s star winger Luis Diaz has been handed a three-game ban by UEFA for serious rough play, following his red card in the 3-1 Champions League win over Paris St Germain earlier this month.

The Colombian player was sent off for a violent tackle on PSG’s Achraf Hakimi, who has been sidelined with a severe left ankle sprain.

Diaz’s ban means he’ll miss Bayern’s upcoming games, including the trip to Arsenal, and home matches against Sporting and Union Saint-Gilloise. Bayern boss Vincent Kompany had initially expected Diaz to only miss the Arsenal game, but the three-game suspension is a significant blow to the team.

The tackle, which occurred on the stroke of halftime, was deemed serious rough play by UEFA, and Diaz will now have to sit out key matches for Bayern. Hakimi, who has been recovering from the injury, recently picked up the African Footballer of the Year award, limping onto the stage with a scooter.

Bayern Munich currently tops the Champions League standings with 12 points from four games, alongside Arsenal and Inter Milan.
