Bayern Munich lost 1-0 in their final Club World Cup group stage game against Benfica, but the loss didn’t hurt their chances of getting to the knockout stages of the competition.

Bayern Munich missed their chance to make it three wins from three games after suffering a 1-0 defeat to Benfica in their last group game of the Club World Cup.

The German side went behind in the 13th minute after a goal from Andreas Schjelderup. Bayern tried to find their way back into the game, but they were repelled by the Benfica defence after every attempt.

Benfica goalkeeper Anatomy Trubin was excellent throughout the game, especially in the second half. He was the sole reason Bayern Munich couldn’t find the back of the net. He pulled off two fine saves to deny Leroy Sane in two 1v1 situations. He also denied Pavlovic on multiple occasions.

Bayern thought they had equalised through Kimmich, but the goal was ruled out for offside after Harry Kane was judged to have obstructed the keeper’s vision when the shot came in.

Bayern brought wave after wave of attack, but they were unable to break down the Benfica back line. The game ended in favour of Benfica, who celebrated as the win was enough to help them secure qualification. Bayern qualified as well, but they finished second in the group.
