Bayern Munich has been hit with a 116,000 euro fine and partial stadium closure by UEFA, making them the most heavily sanctioned club in the latest disciplinary measures.
Bayern Munich were charged by UEFA for blocking public passageways and lighting fireworks during their match against Sporting earlier this month.
As a result, UEFA has ordered the partial closure of sectors 111 to 114 at the Allianz Stadium for Bayern’s next UEFA home match against Union Saint-Gilloise on January 21st.
In addition to the fine and stadium closure, Bayern Munich was also handed a further partial stadium closure of the entire South Tribune for a subsequent match. However, this additional closure is suspended for a two-year probationary period.
The disciplinary action follows Bayern’s away defeat by Arsenal last month, which resulted in additional fines. UEFA fined the German club 40,000 euros for crowd disturbances and throwing objects, as well as 30,000 euros for transmitting messages not fit for a sports event.
Other clubs affected by UEFA’s disciplinary measures include Eintracht Frankfurt, who were fined 38,000 euros and banned from selling tickets to away supporters for their next match. Sporting was also fined 40,000 euros and handed an away-ticket ban, while Lille received a 10,000 euros fine and a suspended ticket ban.
Maccabi Tel-Aviv was fined 20,000 euros for racist or discriminatory behavior by their supporters in their Europa League game against VfB Stuttgart.
The fines and stadium closures are a result of UEFA’s efforts to maintain discipline and safety in European football competitions.
