Bayern Munich and Dayot Upamecano are close to a deal, but one major hurdle remains: the signing bonus.

Bayern Munich and Dayot Upamecano are making progress in their contract negotiations, with the two sides nearing an agreement on the player’s base salary.

However, a significant obstacle remains: the signing bonus. Upamecano is reportedly seeking a signing bonus of €17 million, similar to what Alphonso Davies received when he extended his contract in February.

Despite the progress made, Bayern Munich is unwilling to meet Upamecano’s demand, and it’s unclear whether an agreement will be reached.

The longer the negotiations drag on, the greater the risk that Bayern could lose the French defender on a free transfer in the summer of 2026. Several top clubs, including Real Madrid and FC Barcelona, are reportedly keeping a close eye on the situation.

The contract extension talks between Upamecano and Bayern Munich have been ongoing for a while now.

Both parties have expressed a desire to continue working together, but the financial demands have been a sticking point. Upamecano’s current contract expires in 2026, and Bayern would likely want to secure his services before he becomes a free agent.

Upamecano’s agent has been in talks with Bayern’s management, including sporting director Max Eberl, and progress has been made. However, the signing bonus remains a major hurdle. The player’s camp believes he deserves a similar deal to Davies, but Bayern is hesitant to meet his demands.

If Upamecano were to leave the club, Bayern would need to find a suitable replacement, potentially in the transfer market.

For now, both parties are working towards finding a solution. Upamecano has expressed his desire to stay with Bayern, and the club is keen to retain his services. Whether they’ll be able to agree on the terms of the contract extension remains to be seen.
