Officials will be disappointed when they look back at incident, says defender
Fulham defender Calvin Bassey has criticised the decision to allow Manchester United’s goal in the club’s 1-1 draw at Craven Cottage, insisting he was fouled in the build-up.
United went ahead just before the hour when Leny Yoro rose to meet Bryan Mbeumo’s corner, his header deflecting off Rodrigo Muniz and into the Fulham net. But Bassey argued the young defender had pushed him in the back to gain the advantage.
It is enough for me to not be able to win the ball and it is an advantage to him,” Bassey said afterwards. “It should have been disallowed.
“When the referee looks back at it I think they will be disappointed. It is a foul. When you go up to a jump, any little touch can put you off.”
Ironically, Bassey himself had been penalised in the first half for pulling Mason Mount in the box, but Bruno Fernandes squandered the resulting penalty.
Fulham would recover to level through Emile Smith Rowe, who scored within two minutes of coming off the bench. The home side looked likely to score another goal in the closing stages but ultimately the game ended in a draw.
