Barcelona midfielder Gavi is nearing a return after being sidelined for four months.

Gavi had surgery in September following a serious knee problem he sustained in Barcelona’s second league game against Levante.

On Wednesday the midfielder posted a photo on his Instagram account alongside teammate Pedri, who is also sidelined. Both players were wearing a training kit at the Ciutat Esportiva, Barcelona’s training ground, suggesting Gavi is close to a return.

Pedro sustained an injury in Barcelona’s game against Slavia Prague and is expected back in late February. This coincides with the time frame that has previously been given for Gavi’s return.

However, the club will not be rushing the 21-year-old back as his persistent injury problems means he needs ample time to recover full fitness.

He is expected to rejoin the main group in training soon, where he will work to reach the expected levels of fitness. In this time his recovery will be monitored and then he can receive medical clearance to play in matches.

Gavi Targeting February Return as He Continues to Recover from Surgery

Barcelona midfielder Gavi is making steady progress in his recovery from knee surgery and is hoping to return to the pitch by February.

The 21-year-old has been sidelined since September after having surgery on his right knee. He was ruled out for five months but his recovery is progressing well, according to Sport.

For now, Gavi is not ready to return to grass. He is limited to work in the gym and individual recovery sessions, but those close to the process said he is responding well.

Barcelona have been cautious about Gavi’s recovery, aware of the risks of rushing him back from a second knee operation. He was out for a year in 2023-24 after suffering a cruciate ligament tear. However, sources said he is determined to rejoin the squad as soon as possible.

If he continues on his current trajectory, the midfielder could be back in training for Barcelona around February, when the season begins to intensify.

His return would be a much-needed boost to a side that has lacked depth in quality in the midfield this season.
