The Barcelona director has slammed Spanish football’s disciplinary committee for Mbappe match-ban decision

Barcelona vice-president of sport Rafa Yuste has expressed his dissatisfaction with the decision of the Spanish Football Federation’s disciplinary committee to only award a one-match ban to Real Madrid forward Kylian Mbappe.

Mbappe made a reckless challenge on Deportivo Alaves midfielder Antonio Blanco in their match on Sunday. Mbappe was initially given a yellow card, but after a VAR review he was awarded a red card.

The disciplinary committee ruled that the incident warranted only a one-match suspension. However, this has sparked controversy, with critics of the decision saying it was too lenient.

Speaking to reporters on RAC 1 radio, Yuste labelled both Mbappe’s tackle and the committee’s decision as “absolutely absurd”.

“It was shocking and could have injured the opponent,” said Yuste. “It’s a disgrace.”

A three-match ban would have seen Mbappe miss Real Madrid’s Copa del Rey clash against Barcelona. This has only increased sentiment among fans that Real Madrid are being favoured by officials.

Rafa Yuste chose not to comment further on the matter.
